Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayaga chathurti is celebrated as the Birthday of Lord Ganesha. On that day, we make special traditional dishes like kozhukattai using coconut and jaggery filling. This great dish is a must for festive occasions such as Ganesh Chaturthi. Kolukattai is also healthy as it packs the goodness of
coconut, dal, jaggery and rice .

INGREDIENTS:
- 1 cup Rice flour Idiyappam flour
- Water – 3/4 to 1 cup
- Salt – 1/2 to 1 tsp (adjust to your taste)
- Sesame oil (optional) – 1 tsp
- Paasipayaru/mung bean – 3/4 cup
- Jaggery (Vellam) – 3/4 cup
- Grated coconut – 1/2 cup
- Water – 1 cup
- Salt – 1/4 to 1/2 tsp.
- Cardamom seeds (powdered) – 1/2 tsp.
Kozhukattai Pooranam
- Wash the Paasipayaru
- Cook the Paasipayaru in pressure cooker with 1/4 tsp. of salt for 2 whistles
- Drain the water.
- Grind the pasipayaru in mixie
- Add half cup water to jaggery and bring to boil. When it starts boiling, remove from stove and strain it.
- Saute them until the coconut releases it’s magical smell, turning golden brown.Don’t add oil while doing this.
- Add cardamom powder
- Add the pasipayaru and the jaggery syrup.
- Cool the poornam for 10 minutes.
How to stuff kozhukattai
- In a bowl, add rice flour and a pinch of salt. Mix well.
- Add hot water to the flour and make a dough. Add a little gingeley oil to make the dough smooth.
- Smear your palms with little oil. Take a lemon sized portion of the dough and flatten.
- Place a spoonful of the Pooranam at the center.
- Bring the edges together.
- Repeat the process to make the desired number of kolukattais.
- Steam cook the kolukattai for 5 minutes or until done.
- The kolukattais will turn shiny when cooked.
